There are many fancy restaurants in Florida where tourists and celebrities wait in line, but some of the best dining experiences in the state aren’t found by searching Google. These upscale hidden gems, tucked away in quiet alleys or behind modest doors, provide top-notch food without the crowds or the glitz.
The Grove in Tampa, a tiny, sophisticated eatery that seems more at home in a stylish European metropolis than a Florida suburb, was one of my favorite finds. The cozy setting is ideal for enjoying delicacies like their flawlessly grilled duck breast or buttery lobster risotto. Not only is the cuisine at The Grove exceptional, but the experience is as well; a small, committed staff provides a cozy, customized setting where each dish feels like it was prepared especially for you.
While Hakkasan is well-known throughout the world in Miami, Zuma provides subtle elegance in an equally obscure setting. Tucked away in the hip Brickell neighborhood, this unpretentious Japanese izakaya-style eatery serves excellent sushi and robata grill fare. The beautifully made cocktails elevate the dish to a more sophisticated level, and the fish is so fresh that it virtually melts in your mouth. Offering a fine dining experience that is relaxed yet sophisticated, it offers a peaceful haven from the typical hustle and bustle of the city.
Located in the center of Orlando’s tourist district, The Capital Grille provides a fine-dining experience that feels off the beaten path. Although theme park eateries frequently overwhelm this establishment, which is well-known for its dry-aged steaks and sophisticated wine list, it stands out for its timeless, sophisticated cuisine and faultless service.
You don’t have to go after the glitzy restaurants to have a great meal in Florida, as these hidden luxury eateries demonstrate. They are silent, modest, and memorable.
